"Top Tips" to Improve Your Fishing Success

  • Use the best tackle you can afford, regardless of type.
  • Maintain your tackle in "top notch" condition.
  • Use ONLY premium quality "name brand" line.
  • Replace the line on your reels often.
  • Learn to tie proper knots.
  • While fishing, stop and re-tie hooks and lures often.
  • Learn to properly set and service your reels drag system.
  • Check your drag often while fishing and reset drag as necessary.
  • Back drag off to "zero" when not in use.
  • Use the proper size and style of hook for the lure or bait you are using.
  • Use ONLY premium quality "name brand" hooks.
  • Learn to properly sharpen hooks and KEEP them sharp.
  • Wear GOOD polarized glasses at all times while fishing.
  • Learn proper casting, pitchin' and flippin' techniques.
  • Practice and hone casting skills and accuracy.
  • Limit lure selection and learn to fish just a few lures effectively.
  • Build good color selections of the lures you choose to fish with.
  • Pay close attention to weather conditions, moon phases and barometric pressure.
  • Learn the proper lure colors, types, sizes and actions for the existing water clarity and condition, time of year, water temperature, weather conditions, area being fished, and the species you are pursuing.
  • Match your rod, reel and line selection to the type of lure you are using, the weight of the lure you are using, the cover you are using it in and for what species you are using it for.
  • Treat EVERY strike as if it were that "once-in-a-lifetime" fish.
  • Pay close attention to what is going on around you and act accordingly. "Mother Nature" will tell you a lot… IF you will listen!
  • Keep an open mind! If something is not working… Try something else!
  • Never THINK you know everything… You DON'T and never WILL!

You can NEVER be "over prepared"! There are a lot of things that can and will go wrong. Learn to control the things you can control! Learn to expect, accept and deal with the things you cannot control! Learn to tell the difference! Remember… "There is no such thing as LUCK! Luck is when preparation meets opportunity!" Will Whitehead

    When trophy fish are released…
They live to make MORE trophy fish!
