Will Whitehead

"The Fishin' Gypsy"

Will and World Record Northern Pike

Will Whitehead was born and raised in the south. He grew up in a "Fishin' Family" and some say he could cast a rod and reel before he could walk. A slight exaggeration! Actually, he learned to walk the day before he learned how to use a rod and reel. His family moved north, in 1962, and Will, still in his teens, was forced to follow along.

Will has fished all of his life, and still remembers his first fish, caught at the age of four. He was fishing with his dad, on the Loxahatchee River, near Jupiter, Florida, and landed a nice-sized Catfish. His professional fishing career started in earnest in 1970, after graduating from High School, and a stint in the military, where he attained the rank of Captain.

Will founded the first B.A.S.S. affiliated chapter in western Maryland, the "Hub-City Bass Masters". He went on to found the "Potomac Bass Anglers", and was one of the charter and founding members of the "Maryland B.A.S.S. Federation". He qualified as chapter "Mr. Bass" for seven out of the eight years that he was affiliated with the "Potomac Bass Anglers". Will also served on the "Board of Directors" of the Maryland Bass Federation for many years.
