"First Susquehanna River Tourney for 2003"

Our “Pro Staff Director” Will Whitehead came out of a fifteen-year retirement from tournament fishing, to sign-up for the prestigious “Hall’s Marine Tournament Series” of five events scheduled on the Susquehanna River. Each event will be held in a different section of the river including Williamsport to the north, Sunbury and Harrisburg in the south, and will feature a guaranteed $2000 for each first place finish. The year will culminate with the top five finishers from each event, and the ten top finishers from the “Wild Card Tournament”, competing in a “Championship Tournament” to be held a “Lake Augusta” on the Susquehanna River at Sunbury, PA. Top prize in the “Championship” is a fully rigged “Triton” boat. For more information and to sign-up, contact “Hall’s Marine” in Williamsport, PA, at 570-546-2310… and GOOD LUCK!

The first event was held April 5, at City Island Park on the Susquehanna River at Harrisburg, PA. Forty boats and eighty competitors were registered for the event. The morning dawned cloudy with cold rain keeping the contestants in warm clothing and rain gear. River conditions were less than favorable, to say the least, with the water level running at 7.9 feet, approximately 2.5 feet above normal, and very dingy in color.

Will relied solely on the “Cabin Creek Baits”, larger one-quarter ounce size “Salty Spider Jig” in Green Pumpkin to boat six fish, while flippin’ and pitchin’ the jig around boulders, logs, and in eddy pockets. Will’s catch earned him a “Second Place” finish and the “Lunker Pot” with a twenty-one inch Smallmouth Bass weighing four pounds. Not BAD for an OLD guy!!!
